So your little dancer is not so little anymore!?! Out grown Little Dancing Stars? Here are some tips on chossing the right dance school for your little dancer:
" Call around to multiple studios - Never pick a school based on location or price alone. Because our area has literally hundreds of dance studios all around the city, you're able to be choosy. Call multiple studios and interview them as you would a daycare or a nanny. Inquire if there is a contract. If so, how do you get out of that contract? Ask about dance days and times. Most studios work late into the night and on weekends. Do they place your child in a class by age or knowledge of dance?
Experience is important - Even if your child is just starting out, you want a teacher that's been performing and teaching for a number of years, particulary with small children. The first couple of years lay the foundation of your child's dance instruction and it's very important to have someone with experience in front of the classroom.
Visit the studio - Before you pick a school, ask if you can tour the facility and observe a class. Getting a good look at the dance space and how the classes are taught will give you an idea of how serious the school is about your child's dance instruction. Are you looking for just 'fun' or competing? Ask about a free trial class prior to signing on the dotted line!
Meet the teacher - In addition to having dance instruction, an instructor should also be personable and approachable. They should also have an interest in your child's goals and interests. You and your little ballerina will be interacting with this person every week for nearly a year, so it's important that everyone be comfortable with one another."
Good luck in developing your future prima ballerina!
